Exploring the Colle Noire mountain range

The Colle Noire is an unspoilt green haven straddling the coastal Hyères and Toulon areas in Le Pradet, on the Maures foothills. Your tour peaks at an altitude of nearly 300m to give you breath-taking views of Toulon harbour, the Saint-Mandrier peninsula and Cap Sicié to the west, the double tombolo, the Giens peninsula and islands of Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant to the east. This dominant position enables your guide to present Toulon, its extraordinary defensive port and harbour; its maritime and military history; the formation of the peninsula and the unique features of the three islands forming the Iles d'Or.

The density of its cover crop earned the site the Provençal name "cola negré" meaning "black hill".

But since the 2005 fire, the mountain range is mainly scrubland peppered with surviving cork oak trees. The area's agricultural past will be discussed in terms of the region's horticultural legacy. The Cap Garonne copper mine lies beneath the path, a relic of the industrial history proving the site's special mineralogical wealth.

You'll then head to the Domaine de la Navicelle through a rolling forest to explore a vineyard grown using biodynamic methods where you can sample some of the estate's wines.

A very interactive walk where visitors are welcome to participate in their adventure.
