Installed in organic agriculture for more than 15 years, we produce vegetables, notably sweet onions, honey and other products from our beehives, but we also have a rental activity with a gite and two guest rooms. Moreover, we propose meals based on products of the farm.
- Chestnut tree honey
Typical of our valleys, the chestnut tree is a nourishing tree, as much for its fruit as for its wood, and is also generous to many animals. The traditional trunk hive has served as a home for our bees for a long time, but it is also a great provider of pollen and nectar just before the summer droughts. Chestnut honey is dark amber, its pronounced taste, slightly bitter, goes perfectly with cheese, whether it is a pelardon or Roquefort, but it also works wonders on a sandwich or in gingerbread
- Spring honey
At the end of winter, the white heather flowers, for the bees it is the first harvest. If the hives are numerous enough and the weather is favourable, they can even store honey in the supers. The spring blossoms are coming: plum trees, wild cherry trees, acacias, lime trees and the crowd of small flowers. Some years the oaks can be invaded by aphids which will give a little honeydew. Irregular in its composition, and even more so in the quantities produced, spring honey from our region is often quite dark, crystallizes quickly, and its taste is powerful and musky with notes of caramel and licorice.
- Propolis
Propolis is a real multi-purpose substance, used for everything in the beehive: filling holes to avoid draughts, reducing the entrance to the hive, coating the inside of the hive and the cells in order to sanitize them, immobilizing and mummifying invaders such as beetles (beetles fond of honey) etc.
It is composed of a little wax and a lot of resins rich in essential oils collected from the buds, but also of bee secretion and polen. For us it is a powerful remedy, antibiotic, antifungal, healing, and it allows to treat many ailments.
