Day 1: Meeting and departure from Besse en Oisans.

Ascent to the Emparis plateau (from "en Paris" because the richness and beauty of this immense alpine pasture reminds us of the greatness of Paris...). Of tremendous landscape interest, the plateau is protected as a classified site. Magnificent belvedere, it is also and especially a vast and rich territory of alpine pasture considered as one of the best pastures of the Alps. Unforgettable sunrises and sunsets on the Meije, the Rateau and the glaciers of Mont de Lans, Girose, Meije and Tabuchet. In the 30's, the Touring Club of France proposed very seriously to build a panoramic road between Alpe d'Huez and Le Lautaret. It would have crossed the plateau of Emparis where it was planned to install several hotels!

Day 3 :

La Grave (Celtic word meaning strike or gravel): planted at 1500m altitude on a rocky promontory overlooking the Romanche valley, La Grave has been since the Middle Ages, the administrative and commercial center of the Haut-Oisans. At that time, while the upper part of the valley seems largely populated, this important community has more inhabitants than Bourg d'Oisans, the economic and administrative capital. La Grave would have been surrounded by a fortified enclosure, today totally disappeared, but which is still linked to the very concentrated urban fabric of the village. The church of La Grave is a true witness of a time when the village dominated the high valley of the Romanche and is classified as a historical monument.

We are now going to take a closer look at a mineral and glacial universe.

It is possible to go back and forth to the Romanche springs (2143m) where the view on the Platte des Agneaux glacier and on the Tombe Murée glacier is very beautiful.
