Discovering the biodiversity of Cap Lardier
1 half day
Easy

Leave with the association S'PECE for an educational and playful walk in the exceptional setting of Cap Lardier. You will discover its secrets, the richness of its fauna and flora as well as the ability of Nature to recover from the recent passage of the terrible fire of 2017.

Committed to raising awareness of current environmental issues, the association S'PECE will take you on a hike that will present the biodiversity and geological history of the Port-Cros National Park territory, as well as the interest in its preservation.

The Mediterranean rim is a biodiversity hot-spot, with exceptional but very fragile natural resources. The environments it shelters are subject to numerous pressures and threats, including fires, which are very frequent in the region. You will discover how the Mediterranean ecosystems are able, in the long term, to recover from such events! An experience placed under the sign of observation, discovery and awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity.

The outing, starting from the Col de la Collebasse, takes you through the scrubland, on the crest of Gigaro, offering a breathtaking view of the capes and the commune of La Croix-Valmer. The coastal and rock birds always reserve their surprises for observation (peregrine falcons, shearwaters), all the more so in the migratory period, when their long journey sometimes makes a stopover in the area. The descent towards the Pointe de Brouis allows a progressive immersion towards the littoral, to reach the edge of the Mediterranean, after having crossed the characteristic flora of these dry and hot environments (cistus, lentisks, heathers). The ascent by the forest track is done gently, allowing to appreciate some reptiles taking the sun at the edge of the path, (Montpellier's snake, two stripes lizards, ...) and to find the view on the crests and the stigmata of the recent fire on the zone. An immersion in a preserved Mediterranean coastal context to admire!

The course is easy and accessible to children from 7 years old. Don't forget to bring your picnic, as a lunch break is planned.
