The 3* Auberge des Glycines is a charming hotel ideally located on Place d’Armes in Porquerolles which opened in the 50s.
The year-round hotel was taken over in 1990 and underwent a full renovation to restore its Provençal inn character. It exudes Mediterranean vibes throughout, firstly in the choice of premium traditional materials such as Salernes tiles, whitewashed walls, Provençal furniture, cotton fabric and quilts alongside an array of little details that bring everything together: the old carved wooden shelving unit playing host to pétanque boules for guests to use, driftwood lamp stands, bitter apples for key holders in bedrooms and, of course, the wall of cicadas in the parlour.
The hotel has 11 air-conditioned rooms in soft warm colours that open onto either Place d'Armes or the patio: a large internal courtyard where you can soak up the peaceful spot sitting comfortably on one of the garden chairs in the shade of the wisteria-laden arbour. The hotel has an on-site restaurant serving... Provençal dishes of course!
"In summer, it's a haven of peace here," says the director Florence Sanchez, "we encourage the feeling and it brings us closer to a B&B feel. That's why we have so many loyal customers."
