Porquerolles bike tour

HYèRES

Description

This 2.5 hr bike ride will take you from the village to the Calanque de l’Indienne on the island's wild south coast where the spectacular views take in Port-Cros. The perfect time to learn about the Hyères archipelago, its history, the foundation of the Port-Cros National Park with its regulations and the recent evolution of its land.

Whilst venturing along the lagoons, you'll hear about the Porquerolles water cycle through the history of François-Joseph Fournier, the island's owner, who created an irrigation system to grow crops among other things.

At the seaside you can see the effects of "anemomorphism", when prevailing winds affect the shape of plants and landscapes, as well as the coast's deterioration due to polluted spray and visitor numbers. These aspects give you an insight into the Park's work as it strives to heal the coastline that's affected by countless factors. Plants may form the heart of this exciting tour but you will also be able to spot birds such as the purple heron, gaze at the sea and cliff views from the Gorges du Loup, drink in the beautiful Argent Beach and take a break at the Park Centre with a walk in the Emmanual Lopez Park.
