Café de Vanibel

Coffee growing has long been the mainstay of Côte Sous-le-Vent farms. Introduced to the island around 1725, Guadeloupean coffee was once considered one of the finest in the world. Aware of this heritage, the Nelson family strives to cultivate quality coffee on the Vanibel estate in the hills above Vieux-Habitants.

The geographical location of this small farm is a major asset for its coffee plantations. In fact, its proximity to the forests protected by the Guadeloupe National Park means that it remains surrounded by a preserved ecosystem that favours the quality of its agricultural production. In keeping with this geographical particularity, the Nelson family naturally chose to adopt agroforestry as their farming system. The combination of coffee, vanilla, cocoa and other tree species helps to maintain a certain biological diversity within the agricultural plots, which in turn helps to integrate them into the natural forest landscape. This activity keeps the site alive as an extension of its history, with remnants of its former coffee production. Vanibel therefore combines natural and cultural heritage in an area of just seven hectares. The Vanibel farm produces 100% Arabica coffee, sold as beans or ground.

Coffee growing has long been the mainstay of Côte Sous-le-Vent farms. Introduced to the island around 1725, Guadeloupean coffee was considered one of the best in the world.

Conscious of this heritage, Joël and his family strive to grow quality coffee on the Vanibel estate.

My agroforestry activity is located on the outskirts of the heart of the National Park. This well-preserved ecosystem is conducive to quality agricultural production. So it was only natural for me to embrace the values of the Esprit Parc Nationalbrand !

For generations, my family has campaigned to ensure that the coffee-growing traditions of Guadeloupe live on. We also grow vanilla, bananas and cocoa, in perfect harmony with nature!

These are the natural heritages of the Côte-sous-le-vent that we preserve to pass on to future generations.
