Using traditional peasant basket-making techniques, I use plants harvested close to home to make baskets, baskets and bird feeders.
It's always a pleasure to select and pick just the right amount of hazelnut, viburnum, dogwood, borage, wild privet, etc. from hedges or forest edges. The larger stems give the basket a solid structure, for the handle and high border. Then, at just the right moment, you need to lift the splints (strips of wood) with the right gestures for each species of plant. Choose the right twigs to weave, and take advantage of their natural moisture content to dress the arches of the basketry structure, bringing out the infinitely renewed colors and textures.
The gesture adapts to the plant so that it accepts to be worked and gives the best of what it can.
Gathering sparingly what has grown naturally, using it with a simple knife, heating with the shavings or composting them according to the season, perpetuating and passing on these skills - all this is in line with my aspiration to live in harmony with nature.
And with a little creativity, these wickerworks, inspired by the simple everyday objects of yesteryear, are reborn with a strong sense of authenticity and bring a little bit of nature into our homes.
Workshop open by appointment, introductory course on request.
