Olive oil - Les Jardins de Porquerolles

The extra virgin olive oil is obtained from fresh olives, using only mechanical processes: pressing, decanting, filtration.... The olives come from the conservatory orchards of the Port-Cros National Park with nearly 150 varieties of olive trees and 100 oleaster trees. It is a pure fruit juice that offers a wide range of aromas and flavors!

Our teams harvest the olives by hand. After harvesting, they are transported to La Londe les Maures, to the Moulin du Haut Jasson, to be crushed and transformed into olive oil. The oil is then packaged in a recyclable 25 cl package at the COPAINS partner company Soléou in Salernes, to protect it from light and preserve its properties. Each year, the company brings together its specialists to define the organoleptic qualities of our olive oil.

Since 1978, the island of Porquerolles has been home to orchards of varietal collections, an exceptional natural heritage. Gathered over the years by the Conservatoire Botanique National Méditerranéen de Porquerolles and the Parc National de Port-Cros, these hundreds of tree species (olive trees, fig trees, mulberry trees...) are the guarantors of a unique biodiversity and the identity of our territory.

Since 2014, the Parc national de Port-Cros has wanted to entrust the maintenance of the collection orchards on the island of Porquerolles to the Association de Sauvegarde des Forêts Varoises, as part of an integration project. This partnership between the National Park, the Conservatoire Botanique de Porquerolles and the association gave rise to the COPAINS (COllections PAtrimoine INSertion) project, an exemplary agricultural estate project, conveying meaning and generating links, based on sustainable development.

In 2017, the association launched an organic market gardeningbusiness . Harvested produce is sold fresh or processed by us and marketed in a short circuit. This is how the "Jardins de Porquerolles" came into being.

Water-saving management:

On the island of Porquerolleson the island of Porquerolles, water is scarce and must be shared to meet all needs (drinking water, fire protection, wild flora, etc.). Les Jardins de Porquerolles closely monitors water consumption and implements farming practices designed to reduce it. For their market garden crops, these include the selection of less water-hungry varieties, the use of green manures and mulching by testing local plants, drip irrigation with solenoid valves, the recovery of rainwater from greenhouses and agroforestry. The 17ha of orchards have been irrigated for over 40 years with treated wastewater that has circulated for a month in lagoons.
