Perched above the Haut Boréon valley, in the heart of the Mercantour National Park, hikers can make a stop or spend the night at the Cougourde refuge, in the commune of Saint-Martin-Vésubie.

Valleys of Salèse, Boréon and Madone de Fenestre: access paths closed
Following the damage caused by the passage of storm Alex in early October 2020, several paths in the valleys of Salèse, Boréon and Madone de Fenestre are dangerous and closed to the public.
Therefore, a closure order listing the concerned sections has been published by the commune(link to the order).
The Cougourde refuge is perched above the Haut Boréon valley, at the limit of the last larches or cembro pines. Between mountain lakes, the environment is exceptional and preserved (particularly rich flora and fauna).
The Mercantour National Park is an invitation to explore nature. The hikes are thus numerous around this point of stage impossible to circumvent which is the refuge. The Caïre de Cougourde, the lake of Trecolpas, the Bessons lakes are possible hiking objectives around the refuge. All the itineraries and summits accessible in summer are also accessible in winter, in ski touring.
You will be welcomed by the guardians, with your family, alone or with friends, for a gourmet break or a well-deserved night of rest.
