Arc en Barrois heritage tour

Arc Patrimoine et Culture was officially created 25 years ago, with the aim of promoting culture and heritage. When the Office de Tourisme des Trois Forêts was created, APC was asked to design a tour of Arc's heritage.

Arc has a particularly rich past: two buildings and three objects are listed as historic monuments, including the only object from the industrial era in the National Forest Park: the steam engine; the figures in the sepulchre by the Bernini school; the castle; and a curiosity: the ice house. Colorful characters were born, lived or served in the town: Jean de Broyes, known as the Blind Man, took part in the 7th Crusade; Nicolas de l'Hôpital, Concini's assassin; Antoine Lebel, painter of the Royal Academy, born in Montrot; Adélaïde d'Orléans and her nephew François, Prince of Joinville; scholars: Gabriel Peignot recteur d'académie, Etienne-J. Bouchu, master blacksmith and author of articles in Diderot's encyclopedia; Edmond Bruet, geologist who studied radioactive rocks and rare earths; pioneers such as F.F. Steenackers and Aurélie Picard-Tedjani.

The heritage tours take around two hours to discover the history and monuments of the area, and to get to know most of the people mentioned above. Fixed dates are announced in our annual diary or in the press, and we welcome groups of more than ten people all year round on request. These tours help to promote tourism in the National Forest Park.
