Stay "Ecrins : animals of bats for a family trek in front of the glaciers of the Meije"
8 Route de la Gare
05600 Guillestre
France
In the country of the Meije, in the company of a donkey and a mule, to meet with the family and live an unforgettable experience.
We've brought together all the essential ingredients for a high-altitude adventure: stunning scenery facing the highest glaciers in the Southern Alps, in the heart of the Ecrins National Park, lakes, marmots and unusual mountain accommodation.
We'll end the week at the foot of the glaciers at over 3000m. An opportunity to observe current climate changes up close.
A 5-day stay with a walking time of 4 to 5 hours and a maximum ascent of 680mD+.
Period: July
- Day 1: La Grave (1480m) - Vallon de la Buffe (1975m)
Ascent: 680m,
Negative ascent: 115m,
Walking time: 5h.
Meet at 9am at La Grave (1480m)
Welcome by your guide. You'll get to know Bounty and Quenote, your animals with big ears, and learn the rudimentary gestures to get the week off to a good start.
On this first day, we leave the mythical village of La Grave for the perched hamlets overlooking the valley. This first day will be an opportunity to get to know the group, the animals and the first notions of life in the mountains. At the foot of the Vallon de la Buffe peaks, culminating at around 3000m, we join our unusual nest for the night in the heart of the mountain!
- Day 2: Vallon de la Buffe (1975m) - Refuge Les Mouterres (2250m)
Ascent: 425m,
Negative ascent: 110m,
Walking time: 4h30.
Here we are on trails once used by peddlers, and now inhabited by shepherds. You and your children will discover that this pastoral activity is organized to manage and enhance the natural environment. For the evening, forget your tablet and smartphone - your screen background this evening will simply be the Meije overlooking this second refuge where we'll be spending the night!
- Day 3: Refuge Les Mouterres (2250m) - Plateau d'Emparis (2365m) - Le Chazelet (1775m)
Ascent: 245m,
Negative ascent: 695m,
Walking time: 4h30.
Today, opposite Les Doigts de Dieu, we join the famous Plateau d'Emparis. It's a tough day: listening to the marmots whistle, dipping our feet in a lake, lying down in the tall grass... and to finish, passing through a small stone hamlet, with its small tribe and still facing the Meije...
- Day 4: Le Chazelet (1775m) - Villar d'Arêne (1650m)
Ascent: 545m,
Negative ascent: 680m,
Walking time: 4h30.
This day will be an opportunity to see man's work on nature: will you be able to read the landscape to identify the importance of the choice of location for hamlets, the signs of development for agriculture?
Depending on the shape of the group, we may opt to climb to the small summit of l'Aiguillon (2095m), or take a leisurely stroll back to our accommodation along the Romanche.
- Day 5: Villar d'Arêne (1650m) - Glacier de la Meije (3200m) - La Grave (1480m)
Negative vertical drop: 750m,
Walking time: 4h.
To round off the week, we head for the high peaks! After leaving the animals by the river, we take the Meije cable car to the glaciers we've been observing all week! During our last hike, you and your children will learn about the evolution and functioning of glaciers, and the effects of global warming on this fragile environment. As an option, you can even take the opportunity to enter the heart of the glacier and visit the ice cave. Return to the valley by cable car. Dismissal around 5pm.
