My first family trek in front of the Meije glaciers

Forests, mountain pastures, lakes, marmots, chamois and eagles are all ingredients for unforgettable memories. Facing the glaciers of the Meije, your children will taste the first joys of itinerant hiking with a light pack. The week will end with the possibility to reach the glaciers at 3200m of altitude.

Description day 1 : Meeting at La Grave at 5:30 pm (Col du Lautaret on the Romanche side)

To reach La Grave, follow our advice in the HOME section. Transfer by cab to Besse-en-Oisans.

Description day 2 : Besse-en-Oisans (1550m) - Refuge les Mouterres (2245m)

Today, you will discover the different levels of vegetation of the mountain environment. From the forest to the mountain pastures, you will reach the Plateau d'Emparis (2365m): one of the most beautiful balconies of the Oisans, with a breathtaking view of the Meije glaciers. The arrival in altitude will be the occasion to discover the first lakes of the week and to dip your feet in them... or more!

Night on this magnificent plateau in a refuge (with transfer of your luggage) !

In option : several lakes to discover on the Plateau.

Elevation gain : +762m, -75m, Walking time : 3h45. Variation of the lakes: 1h45 round trip

Description day 3: Refuge les Mouterres (2245m) - Vallon de la Buiffe (1940m)

Here we are on the path once used by the peddlers. Today, the mountain is inhabited by shepherds. This stage symbolizes the pastoralism. This will be the time for you to explain and understand the role of the breeding activities in the development of the natural space. At the foot of the summits of the Vallond e la Buffe, culminating around 3000m, you join your unusual nest for the night in the heart of the mountain!

For this evening you will not find your luggage.

You will sleep in the magnificent valley in the middle of nature, either in a yurt or in a comfortable refuge, depending on availability when you make your reservation.

As an option, you can do the summit of the Tête du Vallon off-piste or the Pic du Mas de la Grave.

Description day 4 : Vallon de la Buffe (1940m) - Villar d'Arène (1650m)

After leaving the Vallon de la Buffe, you will reach the small town of La Grave, "capital" of mountaineering in the Oisans massif, by a panoramic path. By observing the landscape, you will be able to see the work of the Man during the past centuries.

In the afternoon, you can stroll along the Romanche river and let your children build the dam of their dreams.

This evening you will find your luggage.

Elevation gain : +200-450m, -680m, Walking time : 4h

Description day 5 : Villar d'Arène (1650m) - Lac du Goléon (2450m) or lac du Pontet (1990m) - Villar d'Arène (1650m)

Today you will discover a fragile environment: the altitude lakes. Two levels of difficulty are offered to you:

- Lac du Goléon (2450m): high altitude lake, remnant of an ancient glacier, this lake dominates the valley. It is a postcard must-see! You can also enjoy a little sweet or salty break at the refuge overlooking the lake.

Differences in altitude : +700m, -700m, +200m, -350m, Walking time : 6h

- Lac du Pontet : easier access, this small lake nestled in the heart of the alpine meadows will offer to the youngest a postcard landscape facing the Meije massif easily accessible.

Elevation gain : +380m, -504m, Walking time : 4h

Whatever your choice, in the morning you will benefit from a short cab transfer to reach the start of the hike.

Night at the gite in Villar d'Arène.

Description day 6 : Villar d'Arène (1650m) - La Grave (1480m) - Les Gmaciers (3200m)

To finish the week, we propose you to taste the intoxication of the summits! On the high altitude glaciers, at more than 3200m, your children's eyes will wander over the Alpine Arc. Who will be the first to find the Mont-Blanc?

For this day, several choices are possible:

- Choice 1: A glacier discovery hike with a high mountain guide (extra charge: 29€/adult and 25€/child): live a unique experience at 3200m, at the top of the cable car, roped up with a high mountain guide, come and discover the secrets of the Meije glacier.

Duration of the walk: 1h30 from the terminal station - Technical equipment provided. The hikes take place on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday: 8:30 am (at the bottom), 11 am and 1 pm at the top of the cable car.

- Choice 2 : Hiking on foot. You can go up to the top at 3200m, to touch the ice and observe the eternal snow. Then, you will reach the last lake of the week: the Puy Vachier lake. For the most courageous you can even return to the valley on foot.

The ascent to the cable car must imperatively be paid on the spot. Price 2021 : Return ticket 30€/adult, 20€/child, 66€/family (2 adults and 2 children).

For choice 1, 9the glacier tour will be booked by us, and to be paid directly on site.
