Feet in the water at Anse Magaud
2 hours
Very easy

The "Les pieds dans l'eau" (feet in the water) activity introduces families of all ages to the small creatures of the seaside.

Today, many visitors and users of the "beach" environment are busy observing and catching crabs, arapèdes and so on. Through this activity, Naturoscope aims to help visitors discover the animal and plant species of Anse Magaud in La Garde, and to raise awareness of the need to respect the living creatures that inhabit the sea and coastline.

Once the discovery activity has been completed, seaside users are more familiar with the species and can handle them more carefully. Everything is done by hand, without a landing net, so the sense of touch is developed and the species are less disturbed.

In addition to this practical activity, the notions of habitat are addressed in the wider sense of the Mediterranean, and little games are proposed to consolidate discoveries or to go further on the species living in the Mediterranean Sea.

Duration: 2 hours

Activities available for ages 3 and up.

This outing is available in July and August, every Wednesday, at 10am, 1pm or 3pm.

À la rencontre de...

Thanks to her mother from Hyères, Marion was introduced to the Mediterranean Sea at a very early age. At just 10 years old, sitting on a dyke in front of the Golden Islands, she decided that she would dedicate her life to discovering what goes on underwater.

With her baccalaureate in hand, she joined the Espace Mer team as a sailor to ensure that her feet were well anchored before embarking on studies in marine biology... Her first dive aboard the Brigantin marked the beginning of an ever-present passion:

I put my head under water and a world opened to me.

With two Masters degrees in her pocket, one in "biology of marine populations and ecosystems" and the other in "management of maritime resources", Marion, now a cetacean specialist, who was considering a career as a researcher, responded to a job offer from Naturoscope: after more than 12 years with the association, she has been in charge of the Var pole since 2016.

She defines herself as a "sower of seeds" and transmits her love of life every day by raising awareness of sustainable development to children and adults: schoolchildren from kindergarten onwards, adult training, summer prevention campaigns for beach users and eco-gestures campaigns for boaters.

I have the impression that today, I can sow seeds, ideas. People water their seeds or not, it's up to them. But everyone has one or more small seeds to nurture to initiate a small change in behavior.

For Naturoscope, which also offers underwater hikes in the Magaud cove (the underwater trail) in La Garde, and monthly outings for the general public for its members and supporters in the area from Six-Fours to Hyères, and even as far as Cap Lardier in La Croix-Valmer, joining Esprit Parc National - Port-Cros was "a logical and natural next step".
