Underwater trek to discover the underwater life of Grand Cul de Sac Marin

The Eden Plongée team in Port-Louis invites you to discover the biological wealth of the Grand-cul-de sac marin bay. This natural environment, which unites the islands of Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre, covers an area of 15,000 ha, with the largest coral reef in the Lesser Antilles as its maritime boundary.

It has been recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and is classified by the RAMSAR convention (a label of international recognition of the importance of maintaining and protecting wetlands). This is why the Guadeloupe National Park is working to protect it. The Grand-Cul-de Sac Marin is a fragile area that includes mangroves, sea grass beds, islets and reefs. Discovering it means taking all the appropriate precautions.

With this in mind, Eden Plongée offers an ecological approach to scuba diving. Alain Goyeau, the company's founder and a passionate underwater biologist, has developed his company with a view to making it a benchmark for the discovery and preservation of underwater ecology in Guadeloupe. By choosing Eden Plongée, you'll discover underwater activities in complete safety, supervised by instructors as qualified as they are passionate about preserving marine ecosystems. To introduce you to the underwater world, Eden Plongée offers supervised underwater excursions for beginners. Equipped with flippers, mask and snorkel, you'll take a walk on the surface of the sea, with the option of shallow snorkeling dives, all in a naturalist spirit. Your instructor will enable you to contemplate the biological richness of this natural environment without missing out on details invisible to the uninitiated.

Public: Open to all, provided you can swim.

Location: Baie du Grand-Cul-de Sac Marin.

Outing to the Ilet Fajou nature reserve: the largest islet in the Grand Cul de Sac Marin, it consists of white sand covered by mangroves. Here you'll find three major ecosystems: coral reefs, sea grass beds and mangroves. Located in the heart of the Guadeloupe National Park, it's a must to be accompanied by a recognized professional.

Sentier sous-marin de Port Louis: accessible from Plage du Souffleur in Port-Louis. The trail is no longer signposted due to bad weather that washed out the buoys, but Eden plongée will accompany you on your discovery of this area where coral reefs, sea grass beds and their associated living creatures mingle.

Procedure: Half-day outing. Meeting at 8.30 am and 1 pm. The outing includes: equipment by the instructor, boat navigation, instructor explanation, discovery of the environment, return to port.

More information about the center: The center is open every day except Tuesday.

Eden plongée is a professional diving center accredited by the Fédération Française d'Études et de Sports Sous-Marins. It issues PADI certificates. Eden Plongée is an ambassador center for the Longitude 181 Nature association, which campaigns for the protection of underwater environments. It also adheres to the Responsible Diver Charter. Eden Plongée also offers training in underwater photography. We invite you to take a look at the Eden Plongée website, which will give you a wealth of additional information, both on the activity and on the underwater biology you'll encounter in Guadeloupe.
