In Hell-Bourg, in the Cirque de Salazie, the Hôtel e Christelle Mussard has been immersing guests in Reunionese culture for 16 years, with 10 rooms housed in typical Creole huts.
"Our hotel is emblematic of the island's built heritage: there's the veranda, which is typical of many houses on Reunion Island. Then there's the floor, made of concrete waxed with red encaustic. The framework is made of wood under sheet metal, and the famous Z-shaped doors are extremely solid in cyclone conditions.
The hotel's entire accommodation area is marked Esprit Parc National, but we also have a Creole garden that was created with the help of a landscape gardener from La Réunion. With the help of the National Park, certain invasive species in the garden have been removed. We try as far as possible to use endemic plants and have as little impact as possible on the environment.
The Creole charm is to be welcomed at our own pace. We have time to consider things that are more important than consuming and running around. There's no TV here, so we put the customer directly in touch with nature, which is ideal for getting away from it all. We're really in touch with reality, with the land, with nature, with waterfalls. We're in the moment, and that allows all visitors, whether from La Réunion or elsewhere, to share a moment of Creole authenticity."
