Catherine and Juanito welcome you to their room and table d'hôte "Le Crabe sous la Varangue" for a natural, flower-filled interlude in the shade of a Creole garden, on the route des laves in Saint-Philippe.

Surrounded by forest trees and sky-climbing vanillas, an old Creole hut has been decked out in pink and converted into a B&B by hosts Catherine and Juanito. Here, a generous welcome is extended in a mixed Creole décor, combining local crafts and travel souvenirs.

" Pieces of life on the bluish or purple walls, Asia enters through a door, India sits at the aperitif table, Africa dances under the varangue while in the pots curry simmers, brèdes browns, breadfruit cooks, fish grills... over the wood fire. "Catherine, owner of Crabe sous la Varangue.

The relaxed, friendly atmosphere that the couple bring to their bed and breakfast promises a personalized welcome. A welcome that goes hand in hand with a commitment to more sustainable tourism, promoting short circuits and the use of local furnishings. Their commitment to local life is also evident at the table, as both are keen to promote the producers of the Sud Sauvage. In the kitchen, produce bought at the Saint-Joseph market rubs shoulders with fish from St Philippe, many of them caught by Juanito, a traditional canoe fisherman.

"We obviously give priority to products from La Réunion. Juanito takes care of the traditional Reunionese side of things, and I have fun with local products, mixing and matching colors to create dishes that are a bit motley and friendly" Catherine, owner of Crabe sous la Varangue.
