Guadeloupe is home to countless watercourses criss-crossing the slopes of volcanic massifs, creating a breathtaking landscape of waterfalls, cascades and jumps.
These rivers, sometimes calm and clear, sometimes uncontrollable and devastating, inspired the island's Amerindian name: Karukera, meaning the island of beautiful waters. So it's hardly surprising to find a site on the island dedicated to promoting this natural heritage. With her own hands, Christiane Berthelot has created a place of escape around this theme. While water plays a major role in her garden, she has also combined it with plants to create a harmonious space.
If you're looking for an enchanting setting in which to stroll, the Water Garden is for you. During your stroll, you'll be able to take advantage of water-themed sports and leisure activities (canoeing, pedal-boating). Former breeding ponds for Ouassous (the local crayfish) have been converted into pleasant little ponds, and for those who prefer a less artificial setting, a natural river is available for a leisurely swim. To ensure safe bathing for the public, water quality is regularly monitored by the Institut Pasteur.

The water garden is also open to companies and associations wishing to organize seminars, or to private individuals wishing to host banquets, weddings or picnics.
For several years now, the Water Garden, a former farm and fish breeding area, has been welcoming the public for relaxing moments by the water.
At the Water Garden, visitors can explore an educational garden of medicinal plants, take a bath in the river or relax in the middle of nature.
Sophie Berthelot, the manager of the site, has been aware of the importance of protecting nature since she was a child and has made every effort to provide visitors with a space to reconnect with nature.
In this sense we have put on our route, a space where people can read a poem dedicated to nature.
In addition, I have created partnerships with local companies and associations in order to develop projects that promote local and natural products, and to allow the popularization of scientific knowledge to the general public.
