Réunion Island National Park
Forest honeys & products of the hive - Terre Api des Hauts

Beekeepers in eastern Réunion, Christophe and Mélissa are true enthusiasts. At the gateway to the National Park, in La Caroline, Bras-Panon, the couple produce honey directly from the surrounding Bois de Couleur forest.

Christophe and Mélissa set up in 2017 on a plot of land in La Caroline, Bras-Panon, at the gateway to the National Park, with the desire from the outset to make honey. Lovers of nature and concerned about its preservation, it was an obvious choice for them to work with the forest that surrounds them. This forest is a Bois de Couleur forest, with native and endemic species such as Bois de Joli Coeur, Change-écorce, Vacoa des Hauts, Bois de Perroquet and Bois de Papaye, and it is this diversity of species that gives their honey and beehive products their rich character.

List of products marked Esprit parc national:

  • Forest honeys: Christophe and Mélissa offer two types of forest honey:

- From January to May, the honey is lighter in color, with a fruity taste,

- From September to December, the honey is darker, woody and subtle

  • The waffle is a lontan product. Christophe and Melissa invite their customers to taste their honey and rediscover the pleasure of chewing the wax as they did in the old days.
  • Pollen, harvested from a trapdoor at the entrance to the hive, is a product with many virtues. It helps boost the immune system and is used for lung problems. Christophe advises you to let it melt under the tongue to discover its full flavor, or in a glass of milk or yoghurt.
  • Propolis is a coating produced by bees to maintain a healthy environment in the hive. It has numerous antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidant virtues.

You can find Christophe and Mélissa's products at the Saint André market on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, and at the Bras-Panon farmers' market on the 3rd Sunday.
