The orchards of the Château de Montigny-sur-Aube

Rehabilitated in 2010, they bear witness to the skills of 19th-century gardeners, through the culmination of fashionable techniques such as espaliers and grafting.

The orchards and vegetable gardens adjoin the English-style park, near the Orangery. They cover an enclosed area of 5,244 m2 and are divided into :

• 3 vegetable gardens: the chassis garden, the children's garden and the tomato and potato area;
• 4 fruit gardens: clos des caissiers, clos des fruits rouges, clos des cordons and clos des pêchers;
• 1 melliferous garden with its hemp cob and half-timbered apiary.

The orchards of the Château de Montigny-sur-Aube are recognized as one of the high points of the art of espalier as part of France's Intangible Cultural Heritage. With its trellised fruit trees and climbing roses, its carefully tended squares, its conservatory orchard and the many flowers that adorn it, the whole is a marvel. Amateur gardeners will find plenty of ideas here, as everything is labelled and referenced. Beehives have been installed on the château's lawns. Honey from their bees is on sale at the entrance.
